PLACES explored, from 5 to 5,000 miles from my Leicestershire studio, is the creative catalyst of my art practice; it is primarily paint based, but also includes installations. My work, in acrylics and mixed media, seeks the “ism” rather than the “real” in portraying the realism of place.

The excitement of discovery , be it down a mine or along an Indian railway line, continues in my studio where I re-discover what for me was the essence of that place. Working intuitively and without detailed preparatory work, serendipity is a welcome travelling companion in the process of making, resulting in a dynamic expressionism. Impressions, imaginings and the social and cultural history of places inform the colours, style and form of each body of work. Different places dictate an eclectic approach, but a commonality of mark making and painterly style unites all my works.

My work has attracted buyers from South Korea, Denmark and Costa Rica as well as at home and has been puchased by major companies. I also have permanent sculptural work at Conkers Visitor Centre for the National Forest.
